Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh to Undergo Heart Operation in Offseason

The Los Angeles Chargers were knocked out of the playoffs after the Wild Card Round, losing handily to the Houston Texans with a final score of 32-12. Now, some of the team’s offseason plans have been revealed.

One plan involves the health of head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh revealed that he is set to undergo a heart procedure to address the health scare he experienced earlier this season.
During Week 6, Harbaugh was seen leaving the sideline and running into the locker room. It was later revealed he was suffering from a flare-up with atrial flutter, which is a type of arrhythmia that leads to the heart beating too fast.
Harbaugh mentioned the procedure following the health scare earlier in 2024, stating that he could undergo an ablation to correct the arrhythmia. Now, it appears that will be the case.

Surprisingly, Harbaugh also mentioned to reporters that he is set to have a hip replacement, along with the heart procedure.
“The ablation of the heart … gotta get a hip replacement, too,” Harbaugh told reporters.
Following the arrhythmia incident in Week 6, Harbaugh was checked out by doctors, who were able to get his heart beating back to a normal rate. He returned to coach the rest of the game.
Harbaugh also updated reporters following the event, stating doctors told him that he had the “heart of an athlete.” Regardless of the good news at the time, the Chargers coach is set to undergo the procedure to correct the issue.
The Chargers will need to go back to the drawing board to determine what went wrong in their thrashing by the Texans. Though the team experienced a massive turnaround under Harbaugh, exiting the playoffs in such a way is going to draw many questions.

The team will also have to prepare for the potential of star linebacker Khalil Mack, who may either retire or join another team. The Chargers were able to keep Mack on an adjusted deal in 2024, but he could look to sign a contract with another playoff hopeful.
This is just speculation, but the star Chargers defender hinted at possibly stepping away from the game following the end of the playoff game against the Texans.
Either way, some big changes will be coming. The first is Harbaugh getting a correction on his heart and his hip.
