Miss World Walk Prompts Old City Facelift

Hyderabad: As part of the Miss World event, Hyderabad’s Old City is getting decked up. Ahead of the heritage walk scheduled for May 13, during which contestants will visit the Charminar and Laad Bazaar, the GHMC has taken up extensive beautification and repair works along the route.
The walk aims to showcase the city’s rich culture and history, covering sites including Chowmahalla Palace, Murgi Chowk and Panchmahalla. To prepare for the event, GHMC teams have begun repairing damaged stretches, re-carpeting roads and clearing debris. Sanitation workers will also be deployed to ensure the area remains clean and well-maintained.
A new road divider is being constructed near Madina Circle, and existing dividers, particularly near City College Junction, have been freshly painted. In addition, thematic artwork featuring floral motifs is being painted near the junction to add a vibrant touch to the route.
“The beautification and repair works have already started and will be completed at least a week before the heritage walk. We want to ensure the area reflects the beauty and culture of Hyderabad when the Miss World contestants arrive,” said T. Venkanna, zonal commissioner, Charminar zone, GHMC.
GHMC officials noted that the initiative goes beyond preparations for the international event. It is also aimed at enhancing the overall appeal of the historic Old City for both residents and tourists. With clean roads, vivid artwork and improved infrastructure, the makeover is intended to leave a lasting impression on all visitors, they said.
